German machines for potable water in Kashmir

Jammu April 05, 2007 (Kashmir Newz Desk) :

The Jammu and Kashmir government is seeking the services of German high pressure cleaning machines to provide safe drinking water to the people.

Minister for Tourism, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mohammad Dilawar Mir today said that the state government was proposing to introduce modern scientific process for cleaning of water reservoirs and storage tanks in the state to improve quality of potable drinking water supplied to the people.

"For the purpose, we are seeking the service of a company which utilises German high pressure cleaning machines," Mir said.

The technicians of the "Tank Clean" Thursday demonstrated this innovative technique to the senior engineers of the Public Health Engineering department at Jammu.

The use of anti-bacterial sterilizing agents during the process makes drinking water 100 per cent bacteria free for consumption.

The innovative tank cleaning service by the "Tankclean" company is already in use in different Indian states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Goa, New Delhi, West Bengal, Uttaranchal and Andra Pradesh and have serviced tanks of more than 40,000 private, commercial, government and semi-government buildings, company sources said.

They claimed that the water tanks of different capacities ranging from 1,000 liters to 20 lac liters could be cleaned up by this technique in a very short duration.

Speaking on the occasion, Mir urged the need for providing clean drinking water to the people adding that the proper cleaning process helps eradicate water borne diseases to a greater extent. He asked the engineers to get practical demonstration conducted for cleaning drinking water reservoirs, underground and overhead tanks in the state after ensuring its proper utility and viability.

He also advised the engineers to keep provisions for cleaning and upkeep of various water reservoirs while formulating new water supply schemes.
