Delhi-Lahore bus to ply thrice a week

New Delhi, February 22, 2008:

India and Pakistan have agreed to increase the frequency of cross border Delhi-Lahore Bus to three trips per week from existing two trips per week.

The measure will come into effect from March 17, the officials of the two countries decided at a meeting of India Pakistan Standing Committee on cross border bus services in New Delhi Thursday.

An official spokesman said here that the India-Pakistan Standing Committee on Delhi-Lahore, Amritsar-Lahore and Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus services discussed measures for improvement of services and also decided to rationalise the bus fare.

The quota for the return tickets was increased form the existing six seats to 10.

The Indian delegation was led by Saroj Kumar Dash, Joint Secretary (Transport), Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways and the Pakistan delegation was led by Mohammad Abbas, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Communications.

It was the first meeting of the standing committee.

The two sides agreed that the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus service would make a halt at Lahore to enable passengers to disembark or embark.
